The club was formed in 1937 as a running club known as Worcester Harriers; in 1966/67 the club reformed as Worcester Athletic Club and members are now able to participate in all athletic disciplines - Road Running, Track & Field, Cross Country, Race Walking, Sports Hall and Disabled Athletics.
We are a family club, composed of over 400 members ranging in age from 10 to 90 (school year 5s see "Young Athletes" page). We cater for all athletic abilities, boys and girls, men and women both competitive and non-competing. We are Clubmark accredited and affiliated to UKAthletics and our members all enjoy the benefits of a thriving club and it’s facilities.
Based at the Nunnery Wood Sports Centre, Worcester (click here for directions), we welcome runners and athletes of all standards; our qualified coaches and members are only too willing to give advice and pass on their experience to beginners or aspiring top class athletes alike. The title ‘Athletic Club’ may suggest we are a track & field club only, this is far from the truth; you may choose to compete on the track, on the road, cross-country or just enjoy non-competitive running with a regular group. We are proud of our ‘Harrier’ roots and Worcester Athletic Club has a great deal to offer runners and joggers whatever their preference. If you simply enjoy the camaraderie of running with others, or want to improve on a PB then we are the club for you. There are many benefits to be gained from being a member of an affiliated athletic club.
We would be delighted if you came and joined us at Nunnery Wood. Under-11s (Tuesdays or Thursdays) and Under-13s (Tuesdays & Thursdays) meet from 1800 to 1900 and all other age groups from 1900 on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Training runs and event specific training also take place on Saturday mornings.
The club is administered by a committee (elected annually at our A.G.M.) on which all interest groups have representation (see link at the top of this page). The current president is John Brook.
With a large and diverse membership we believe our members’ and club
interests are best served when we take a full and active role in local
and regional athletics organisation; club officers currently serve on
County and Midland area committees.
The club’s strength is in our UKA licensed coaching team (see link at
the top of this page) who deliver their coaching with passion and
professionalism, appropriate to age and ability.
Members also assist the athletics community as technical officials;
they are licensed and graded by the governing body and we have
officials to cover all the disciplines (starter/marksman, timekeeper,
track judge, field judge, walks judge and endurance).
Members are encouraged to qualify or extend their coaching or
officiating qualifications and usually receive financial assistance to
do so.
Members registered as competing, have the opportunity to participate in the following leagues and meetings and proudly wear our club colours.
